Pear–Apple Scones with Maple Brown Sugar Glaze

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour ¼ cup granulated sugar 1 tbsp baking powder ½ tsp salt ½ tsp ground cinnamon ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

Butter + Fruit

½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed 1 cup total finely chopped fruit (½ apple + ½ pear, or any mix you like)

Wet Ingredients

½ cup whole milk 1 large egg 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

1. Prep

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. Cut in the Butter

Add the cold cubed butter.

Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the flour until you have coarse crumbs with small buttery bits.

4. Add the Fruit

Fold in the chopped apple and pear.

5. Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla.

Pour into the dry mixture and gently stir until the dough just comes together.

(It should be slightly sticky but hold its shape.)

6. Shape

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured counter.

Pat into an 8-inch circle, about 1 inch thick.

Cut into 8 wedges and place on the baking sheet.

7. Bake

Bake 18–22 minutes, until lightly golden and the centers are set.

Let the scones cool slightly before glazing.

Maple Brown Sugar Glaze

Ingredients

1 cup confectioners’ sugar 2 tablespoons brown sugar ½ teaspoon maple flavoring Milk as needed (usually 1–3 teaspoons)

Directions

In a small bowl, combine: confectioners’ sugar + brown sugar + maple flavoring. Add milk a teaspoon at a time, whisking until smooth. You want it pourable but not thin. Drizzle generously over warm scones.
